08/18/2007 - Edmonton, AB (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Juli Inkster and Shi Hyun Ahn are tied for the lead after Friday's second round of the Canadian Open. The pair is knotted at eight-under-par 134 and own a one-shot lead.
Inkster shot a five-under 66, while Ahn posted a four-under 67.
World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa had a spectacular round on Friday. She fired a bogey- free, six-under 65 and is tied for third place at seven-under-par 135.
"I had an easy day," said Ochoa, who captured her first major two weeks ago at the Women's British Open. "Sometimes you just see everything. I hit really good tee shots, and that made things a lot easier. I had a lot of birdie chances, just close on the holes. I took advantage of it in the morning and I'm in good position for the weekend."
Ochoa is tied with Kimberly Hall (67) and overnight leader Laura Diaz (70)
Inkster began her second round on the back nine and bogeyed the 11th when her four-iron approach sailed over the green. She responded with back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14, from four feet and 12 feet, respectively.
The Hall of Famer closed her opening nine with a spectacular 50-foot birdie putt at the 18th.
"I just kind of stuck with it and made a good long birdie putt on 18 that kind of got me going for the front side," said Inkster. "I get excited about five- footers at my age."
Inkster hit a sand-wedge to 15 feet at the first to set up birdie and added another two holes later. She hit a nine-iron to four feet for that birdie and closed her round with a five-footer for birdie at the sixth.
Inkster is in the middle of a decent run of golf. She held the lead with one round to go at the Evian Masters, but tied for third place. The next week at St. Andrews, Inkster shared for 33rd and despite being 47, thinks she still has something left.
"It's fun being out here with the younger players and stuff. I think it keeps you young, keeps you going, keeps you motivated," said Inkster, who will be a member of the U.S. Solheim Cup team next month. "I'm just kind of out here trying to win every week, and unfortunately Lorena is doing that, not me. I'm just trying to sneak one in there here and there."
Ahn also played the back nine first in round two and birdied the 12th and 15th holes. At the par-three 16th, Ahn hit a six-iron at the 158-yard hole and made it for her first ace of the year.
"I just try to every shot," said Ahn, referring to holing her tee shot at 16.
Ahn birdied the par-five third to stand at minus-nine. She held the lead, but an errant bunker shot at the eighth, her 17th, led to a bogey and a share of first with Inkster.
"I'm a little nervous, but I don't care about the leaderboard," acknowledged Ahn, whose only win on tour came in 2003.
Karrie Webb fired a seven-under 64 to finish in sixth at minus-six. Paula Creamer is one shot behind her after a second-round 69.
Ya-Ni Tseng (71), Brittany Lang (67), Kyeong Bae (72) and Jeong Jang (71) are tied for eighth place at four-under-par 138.
The 36-hole cut fell at three-over 145 and among the notable players who will miss the weekend are: Pat Hurst (146), Se Ri Pak (147), Birdie Kim (148) and Michelle Wie (149).
