Blues name Mellanby assistant coach

Mellanby, 43, had been working as a pro scout with Vancouver and will remain at that position until July 15.

"In my current role with Vancouver I have scouted many Blues games and feel this team, with this talent, is headed in the right direction," said Mellanby. "St. Louis is my home and my family and I are thrilled to be back in the Blues organization."

Mellanby played 21 seasons in the NHL, including parts of four seasons with the Blues.

Over 1,431 games, he totaled 364 goals and 476 assists. He also skated with Philadelphia, Edmonton, Florida and Atlanta.

Green enters a crowded backfield in New York, but considering both Thomas Jones and Leon Washington are unhappy about their contract situations and might holdout, the former Iowa product could become the Jets' primary back.

Everyone was shocked when Al Davis took Heyward-Bey with the eighth overall pick in April's draft, but the kid has a tremendous amount of talent and if quarterback JaMarcus Russell takes the next step this year, the former Maryland product could blossom. Plus, Heyward-Bey will be looking to prove the people wrong who said Oakland should have taken Michael Crabtree with the No. 8 pick.
